Requirements
To execute a measurement, you need the following three things: the Medimate Multireader®, a Disposable Chip such as the Licitas Disposable Chip, and a finger prick pen.
The Medimate Multireader®
The measurements can solely be taken with the help of the Medimate Multireader®. The Medimate Multireader® contains the necessary electronics and software to execute the measurements and use the measurements to calculate the concentration of a substance in the blood. Besides that, the Medimate Multireader® also uses the user’s interface to communicate the results to the user.
For a measurement, a Disposable Chip must be inserted into the Medimate Multireader®. The Medimate Multireader® then checks if there is a Disposable Chip inserted. This guarantees safe use of the product.
In the future, it will also be possible to connect the Medimate Multireader® to your computer, and for instance automatically store the results of the measurements in an Electronic Patient Dossier (EPD) or automatically download the latest software.
A lithium measurement is executed with the Medimate Multireader®. The Medimate Multireader® automatically reads the Licetas Disposable Chip and saves the data.
The Disposable Chips
Using the Disposable Chip is very simple. Open the Disposable Chip, remove the seal and place a drop of blood on the correct space. Close the Disposable Chip and insert it into the Medimate Multireader for measurement.
The Disposable Chip was developed with the innovative Lab-on-a-Chip technology. This technology makes it possible to execute analytical processes that before could only take place on a macro scale, on a micro scale. This means that large laboratory instruments can be reduced to manageable measurement devices.
Depending on the type of Disposable Chip, the Medimate Multireader could be used to measure different substances in (amongst other things) the blood. In the table below are several substances that Medimate expects to be able to measure in the future.

The Lab-on-a-Chip technology of Medimate makes it possible to measure a large variety of substances in the future. Potentially, over 70 substances could be measured. Should you be interested in measuring certain substances and want to know if it will be possible to measure these in the future, feel free to contact us.
The first kit that Medimate will offer is the kit for measuring lithium levels with the help of the Licitas Disposable Chip. Which kit will become available after this one, is as yet unknown.
Finger prick pen
For every measurement only one drop of blood is needed. A blood drop is easy to acquire by using a finger prick pen. Medimate offers Medlance finger prick pens for sale. These finger prick pens meet all the requirements necessary for measuring with the Medimate Multireader. Medimate sells these finger prick pens with different needle lengths and one leafed finger prick pen. These finger prick pens contain a mechanism that enables them to be used only once.
The finger prick pens are:
- Friendly: Little force is necessary
- Easy: All you have to do is push it against the test surface
- Accurate: enough blood can be withdrawn
- Safe: the needle is never visible and cannot be reused.
With a finger prick pen, you can withdraw blood from the finger in a simple, and relatively painless manner. Medimate offers four different finger prick pens with each a different needle length. This enables the patient to chose the one he/she prefers.
